Duplicate content what it is and how to avoid it

Post by mstlucky7800 »

Duplicate content is divided into external and internal. External duplication is content duplication under multiple urls, while internal duplication refers to duplication within a single domain. In this case, the problem most often lies in incorrectly set redirects of the same page version. When a page is available at an address with www, without www, http, https, it is received as a duplicate. The issue of redirects can be solved in the .htaccess file, but not only. Redirects can be set on the server or by implementing redirects on the page using PHP or JavaScript. How exactly does it look? You will learn below.

What is duplicate content?
The main goal of effective content marketing is to create and distribute unique, well-optimized, and valuable content. Duplicate content (DC) occurs when published text is found under several URLs. Duplicating content is often the result of unconscious actions resulting from a lack of appropriate knowledge on the subject. When talking about duplicate content, two types of it should be mentioned:

Duplicate content within one site
As the title suggests, we are talking about duplicate internal content, or content duplication within a single domain. The reason for the problem is most often a few basic mistakes, such as:
no 301 redirects, several addresses lead to one subpage, creating a duplicate, e.g.

All of the above addresses can display the same home page content.
Duplicating product descriptions in the online store - each description should be unique, showing the specifications and advantages of the product.

Duplicate category description - sometimes the main category description is intentionally duplicated when paginating, filtering or sorting a given category. Purpose ⇛ Help with product selection. Effect ⇛ Duplicate content.

Duplication of the first page of category pagination - an error that often appears in this case is the duplication of the first page of the category which is available at domain.pl/kategoria and e.g. domain.pl/kategoria?page=1. As a result, we get a duplicate page on which the content does not differ in any way in relation to the page without pagination, i.e. domain.pl/kategoria.

mplementation of the language version - I have encountered the how to use overseas chinese in australia data to boost sales error several times that not all subpages of a given site are translated into the specified language. Often, yes, the subpage exists but there is untranslated text in Polish on it, which creates a duplicate.

GET parameters, lack of standardization - It often happens that if we have several GET parameters in a link, the page will launch correctly, regardless of the order in which they are entered.

Duplicate content across multiple domains
External duplicate content is when the same content has been published on at least two websites. The reasons for this phenomenon can be different, most often they are:

Copying content from other sources (theft).
In the case of products, it is quite common to copy descriptions from the manufacturer's website.
Copying fragments of content without using a semantic link.
Where do we most often encounter external duplicate content?
Product Descriptions - Duplicate manufacturer description.
Duplicating product descriptions on platforms such as Ceneo, Allegro, OLX.
Reproduction of content on social media, news sites, catalogues and more.
Duplicating content in press and sponsored articles. Legal regulations and regulations - when publishing on your site, it is worth being vigilant and marking such pages with the "noindex" tag.
How to check if content is duplicate?
We can verify external duplicate content in several ways. One of them is already available from Google. We can check whether a given text fragment appears in duplicate on other services. How to do it?

Copy a fragment of the content that interests you (about 30 words) and paste it into the Google search engine. Important tip, the content should be placed in quotation marks, if we do not do this Google will search for different matches for us.
Google will display all indexed URLs that contain the specified piece of content.
In a situation where it turns out that there are a lot of duplicate results, Google search engine will hide them under a button. By expanding this list, you will be able to check all similar results.
Tip: As you may have noticed, 30 words for a long article is a bit too few, so verifying the whole thing will be more difficult. If Google found many similar results, I suggest clicking on a few selected ones and comparing the given content. If they are almost identical, there are most likely more such results.
