I will try to compare platforms that at first glance have more differences than similarities. However, my choice is not accidental. The described online sales systems have a similar number of stores in our country, both are in the TOP3 e-commerce platforms in Poland. According to one of the latest reports, Shoper has about 20 thousand active e-stores, while for PrestaShop this number oscillates around 15 thousand.

Platform and positioning
Benefits
The Shoper platform offers store administrators direct access to positioning functionality via the administration panel. The settings are by default adapted to Google requirements. Among the most important functions we can find:
Metatags (Title, Meta Description, Meta Keywords) - special tags that appear in the code of the page. With their help, we can describe the content of the website, which has a positive effect on the positioning results, some of them are displayed in the search results.
Google Sitemap (site map) - this is nothing more than an XML file that contains a list of subpages of a website.
Robots.txt - This file tells search engine robots which URLs on your site they can access.
Short and long product description
Opinions — the ability to add opinions about a product has a positive impact on the credibility of the store, making it easier for customers to make decisions based on the feelings of other buyers.
Post categories and tags - not only make it easier to browse your blog, but also have a positive impact on positioning.
ALT attribute for images – Each product image can have its own alternative image description set.
SSL certificate - a network protocol that allows for secure connections between a web browser and the server where the store is located.
301 redirects - the platform allows you to easily redirect to a new address, e.g. in the case of a discontinued product.
Built-in Google integrations and SEO analytics ( Google Analytics , Google Search Console , Google Customer Reviews)
Rich snippets and schema.org microdata support — The system has implemented structured data markup , allowing you to retrieve product data from other platforms, browsers , and Google.
Canonical URLs (canonnical) - information contained in the code of a website that allows search engines to minimize the problem of duplicate content.
Defects
It is worth remembering that Shoper is a SaaS software, so we are not the owners of the code, and editing the template is only possible to a certain extent. Unfortunately, this also applies to SEO. Some recommendations are simply impossible to implement. Overwriting .tpl template files involves the risk of not updating them. Shoper does not change the template file that has been modified.
The biggest problems with positioning include:
the main menu items are H3 headings, repeated on all pages,
the H1 category description is always the category name,
if no alternative description is set for a photo/image, it is taken from the file name,
Additional plugins that significantly expand positioning capabilities are available for a fee.
Cost
The Shoper platform offers 4 subscription packages to choose from at the following prices: PLN 99 / PLN 149 / PLN 119 / PLN 399 per month. However, sometimes we can come across various promotional campaigns, where the price for the first year of use of the selected package can be lower by up to 70%. Promotions only apply to prepaid payments for the entire year. The above packages differ not only in price, but above all in their possibilities. When choosing, it is worth paying attention to the number of products, annual transfer, or even the amount of commission for online payments.
