Are we safe on the internet?
Before we get into the topic, let's start with a little trivia.

There are 2,244 cyberattacks per day and 164 cybercrimes are reported every day.

This statistic clearly shows that we are not. Unfortunately, the Internet, although full of possibilities and beautiful things - is an ocean full of sharks (read: hackers), who use social engineering techniques to hunt or wait for their victim. What is worse, the victim can be any of us. Everyone is targeted and anyone can fall for the incredible but perfidious methods of cybercriminals. It may have happened that you have already tried to extort data, you have met or will meet in the near future.

Hackers don't just prey on businesses, but also on ordinary "Kowalskis". What does such a hacker attack look like? Imagine that you're sitting in front of the TV and drinking coffee. Suddenly you receive a text message that says something like this: "Your invoice has not been paid in full. Please pay an additional PLN 1 by XXX or the case will be forwarded to a debt collection agency. Click on this link and make a quick payment". You remember that you paid an invoice for gas or a given service, for example, but in the stress you stop thinking rationally. You quickly click on the link and pay the additional PLN 1 - after all, it's only a zloty, and you don't want to have a debt collection agency on your hands. You provide your payment details and suddenly, instead of a zloty, PLN 2,000 disappears from your account. You have fallen victim to phishing. Phishing is the simplest, most effective and most popular method of attack. They are ongoing and extremely difficult to defend against. This involves impersonating another person or institution in order to obtain information, infect software or persuade the victim to take a specific action.

Is WordPress safe?

Is WordPress safe?
Now let's move on to website security. My answer will be tough: Yes, it is safe - unsafe. I'll explain what I mean. Always, the weakest link in all security is the human. We can have a million zlotys worth of security, and still, all it takes is clicking on a link that will destroy our entire fortress. To answer the question better. WordPress is safe as long as we, as the administrator, follow the rules and practices that increase security and prevent attacks. Most often, it comes down to keeping plugins and themes up to date, but that's not all.

The website has been hacked
At least once a week I receive an email that contains this sentence: "My website has been hacked. I can't access it." You might wonder why someone would attack our website. There's nothing there. A mistake. Of course there is. It's a showcase for your company, and often for you. Would you like it if "18+ photos" suddenly appeared on the home page of your website/online store instead of products? Probably not. For many, a website/online store is their main source of income. It's where they sell products or online courses. It's where they share their knowledge and display ads that they earn money from. The sudden loss of access to this income can hurt. It also turns out that:

So for cybercriminals it is often easy money. Especially since small and medium-sized companies often do not have the strength and resources to ensure security in the Internet. The ease of attack and quick money means that this type of attack will become more and more popular year by year. Returning to the emails that I receive. After a short questioning of the person, it turns out that the only solution is to build a new website (often on a different domain). The lack of preventive measures means that along with the loss of access, the person loses everything they had on the website. In a few seconds, such a person "loses their job and the position they have earned".

The website is vulnerable to attacks
