The lack of female representation in the media is evidenced by the recurrence of covers and reports that have a predominant presence of men, while women are absent. A study by the Chamber of Deputies reinforces this reality by revealing that only 37% of the sources consulted in news stories were women.
When women are finally included in the media narrative, they are new zealand telegram data often portrayed in stereotypical ways, using clichés such as “beauty experts” or “mothers of the family.” In addition to ignoring their qualifications and professional experiences, this approach perpetuates gender stereotypes, neglects female perspectives, and minimizes women’s impact on society.
Given this scenario, media outlets need to take responsibility for promoting gender equality in their coverage. To do so, it is necessary to increase female representation, including women as sources in all areas and on every day of the year.
