5 ingredients for a strong story

Post by Bappy7 »

YOUR STORY IS NOT A PLACE TO POST CONTENT THAT IS NOT INTERESTING ENOUGH FOR YOUR TIMELINE!

No, Stories are a new and exciting way to tell stories. And yet, too often I watch Stories from brands that post a “fun backstage report” without any coherence or consistency. It’s like listening to a 4-year-old tell the story of his first day at school: “and then he did this… and then she did that… and then… and then… and then… and then… and then… and then… and then… and then… and then… and then… and then… and then… and then… and then… and then… and then… and then… and then… and then… and then… and then… and then… and then… and then… and then… and then… and then… and then…”

Just like the endless stream of holiday slides of yesteryear, tediously long-winded stories are the sour phone number list apples that this generation has to bite through.

Annoying, right? I think so too. It's time we start giving stories the respect they deserve. Just because your content disappears after 24 hours doesn't mean the quality can be lower. A rock solid story is in any case:

1. Surprising
Stories are new and offer a range of possibilities. Experiment and surprise your audience, so that they will happily share your story with their friends. A great example is the following Story from Netflix:

2. Well prepared
Don't start a story without knowing where you're going to end up. Good preparation is half the battle. Just like with a normal production, write out a shot list so you know exactly what you need, and don't get caught up or lost in your own story.
