Silke Riedel of KKV Saalekreis, an outsider, prevailed in the final against champions who had already won titles from previous years. Silver went to Kathrin Klose of KV Bad Neustadt, the former U23 100-throw champion, who had already won bronze in the women's individual competition twice (2015 and 2016). Third place went to Franca Dormann (Post SV Mainz), the 2012 individual champion. Pia Wehling (SV Weidenstetten), the 2016 sprint champion, remained medalless. Defending champion Steffi Tränkler was eliminated in the qualification.

Men:
Defending champion Daniel Schmid of KV Singen uU and last season's best Bundesliga photo editing services player, Florian Fritzmann of KV Bamberg, made their mark on the championships, winning gold and silver, respectively. Horst Dilling of SKV Weiden pulled off a surprise, confirming his qualification victory with third place. Christian Jelitte of KV Bamberg finished fourth in the final.

U23 Women:
The most consistent player on both days of competition, Celine Zenker of KSV Gräfinau-Angstedt, the 2016 Tandem World Champion, prevailed in a close final. Of the Bimber sisters who reached the final together, Alisa secured silver, while Alene Bimber, the 2015 U18 Tandem World Champion, ultimately had to settle for fourth place. She did, however, defeat defending champion Anna Müller (SV Pöllwitz) in the semifinals. Franziska Zimmermann of SKC Gaisbach moved between the Bimber sisters in third place.

U23 Men:
Dejan Lotina of SF Friedrichshafen crowned his strong performances on both days by winning the title, ahead of Florian Forster (TSV Zwickau) and final favorite Dominik Kunze (KV Bamberg). Oskar Lämmle (ESV Aulendorf), who had eliminated defending champion Sebastian Rüger in the quarterfinals, finished fourth.
