How different generations behave on social networks - Boomers, Generation X, Millennials, Generation Z
We know very well how important it is to adapt the content of the posts to the target audience. It is necessary to find a way to get closer to the audience, how to address them, offer a solution to a problem, or how to simply entertain them. What is equally important (if not more important) is to address potential clients of different ages on the appropriate platform. Interesting and informative ads on a certain social network will not achieve their full potential if they do not reach the target group .
However, apart from the marketing aspect, it is interesting to observe the differences in the online behavior of different generations from a social point of view. Are boomers justified in calling millennials "the generation that spends phone number library its youth on the phone", or are they themselves spending more and more time socializing online ? What kind of content is most attractive to generation Z and how different are they from millennials - the generation that grew up with the development of social networks ? By answering the question about the behavior of audiences of different ages on different platforms, we may get answers to some current social issues...
At the very beginning, let's get acquainted with the users of social networks:
Generation Z (14-18)
millennials (19-35)
Generation X (36-55)
baby boomers (55+)
The results of the research show that about 80% of members of all mentioned generations visit social networks at least once a day . We conclude that visiting social networks becomes our daily routine, and we ourselves become active users. Generations differ from each other in the reason for using social networks, as well as in the way they spend time on the platforms . For example, the vast majority of Generation Z and Millennials visit social media multiple times a day, but Millennials spend that time cruising between several platforms, while Generation Z spends the same number of hours on fewer platforms. Millennials and generation X "jump" from one platform to another, while generation Z has its "pets".
Generation Z uses 2-3 platforms daily: YouTube, Instagram and, increasingly popular, TikTok. On the other hand, Millennials and Generation X use an average of 5-6 platforms at least once a week: Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest ... Millennials grew as different social networks grew and developed. It's no surprise then that a member of this age group will have an account open on every platform that has emerged during his long tenure in online networking. Generation Z is somewhat pickier - because at the very beginning they have the option of selection and elimination.
